Our department provides anaesthetic and pain management services to the Kowloon East Cluster (KEC). We are an accredited specialist training centre for both Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine.
 
Our operating complex comprised of 13 operating theatres and provides 24-hour emergency, obstetrics and acute pain services. Our surgical specialties include orthopaedics, head and neck, hepatobiliary, breast, upper gastrointestinal, colorectal, vascular, maxillofacial, ear, nose and throat, ophthalmology, obstetrics and gynaecology and pain medicine. Our one-stop Day Surgery Centre has the largest number of attendances of any unit in Hong Kong.
 
KEC Pain Management Centre provides integrated pain managements for various intractable chronic pain conditions, including cancer pain, acute post-traumatic and post-operative pain conditions. Our services include multi-disciplinary pain consultation services, pain management nurse clinic, STEPS pain management programme and advanced interventional procedures (including cryotherapy, radiofrequency lesioning and intrathecal analgesia).
 
In 2022, our Endoscopy Centre provided 10,045 endoscopic procedures of which 5,780 were gastroscopy, 1,930 were colonoscopy, 707 were endoscopic retrograde cholangio-pancreatography, 355 were endoscopic ultrasonography and 1,273 were others. In 2023, our Endoscopy Centre began to use Robotic Receptionist. In addition, our Endoscopy Centre implemented Dashboard Information Display System, RFID Endoscope Tracing and Tracking System and HEPA Filter Scope Store Cabinet.

STEPS Multi-disciplinary Pain Programme

This is an intensive 14 days 100-hr pain self-management Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) programme.
