When the United Christian Hospital started in 1973, the Orthopaedic service was provided by General Surgery Department. An Orthopaedic Senior Medical Officer was first appointed in 1977. With the increasing complexity of orthopaedic surgery and a great deal of injuries from the factories in the region, a separate Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology was established in the early 1980’s. With the forever-increasing workload, the Department has multiplied and diversified from her initial humble beginning to the present state, providing different orthopaedic services and operations.

Our department is the training centre for both General Orthopaedics and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation under the Hong Kong College of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Our department is also the teaching centre for medical and nursing students from different local institutes.

Currently our department has 6 full time Consultants, 5 full time Associate Consultants, 1 Resident Specialist and 18 Residents.
